Best Perplexity Tracking Tools (2026)

A Perplexity tracker runs your buyer prompts in Perplexity and records whether your brand is named, where it appears, and whether your pages show up in the numbered citations and sources list. TrendlyAI, Otterly.AI, Rank Prompt, LLMrefs, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Semrush cover Perplexity on standard plans. Peec AI sells it as a paid add-on model, and Profound lists it on Enterprise.

Key takeaways๐Ÿ”—

What does tracking Perplexity actually mean?๐Ÿ”—

Tracking Perplexity means checking, on a schedule, whether Perplexity names your brand and cites your pages when people ask the questions your buyers ask. Perplexity is an answer engine that searches the web for nearly every question, so what it says depends heavily on which pages it finds that day.

There are three signals worth recording.

1. Mentions in the answer๐Ÿ”—

A mention is Perplexity naming your brand in the answer text. If a buyer asks "best project management tool for a construction company" and you are not named, a citation to your blog further down does not help much. Mention rate across a set of prompts is the headline number.

2. Numbered citations๐Ÿ”—

Perplexity's help center says "each answer includes numbered citations linking to the original sources" (Perplexity). Those small numbers next to sentences tell you which page supported which claim. If the sentence that recommends a competitor cites a review site, that review site is where you need to be.

3. The sources list๐Ÿ”—

Next to the answer, Perplexity also shows the full set of pages it pulled from, often called the sources panel. This list is usually longer than the citations used in the text. Pages that appear here but are not cited in the answer are close to winning. Tracking which domains keep showing up in the sources list for your category tells you where to publish, pitch or get listed.

Mentions and citations can move separately. You can be cited without being recommended (Perplexity quotes your pricing page while naming a competitor as the pick), and you can be recommended because a third-party list names you even if your own site is never cited. A good tracker reports both. For more on how Perplexity picks its sources, read how to get cited by Perplexity.

Why is Perplexity worth tracking on its own?๐Ÿ”—

Perplexity is worth tracking separately because it answers from live web results almost every time, so it reacts to new pages faster than engines that lean on training data. A comparison page you publish this month can show up in Perplexity's sources well before it shifts what other engines say. That makes Perplexity a useful early signal for whether a fix is working.

It also means Perplexity answers can be less stable week to week, because the pages it finds change. Read any single check as one data point, not a score.

When I set up TrendlyAI's own tracking, I chose weekly scans with 1 sample per prompt per engine. That keeps plans between $19 and $149 a month, but it shows direction over several weeks rather than daily movement. If you want to see day-to-day swings in Perplexity, a daily tool fits better.

How do Perplexity tracking tools compare?๐Ÿ”—

Every tool in this table tracks Perplexity on at least one plan. Prices are monthly in USD as of October 2026, from each vendor's own pricing page.

SE Visible, SE Ranking's AI visibility product, is not in the table because its pricing page lists ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot, and does not mention Perplexity.

Which Perplexity tracker should you pick?๐Ÿ”—

TrendlyAI: for gaps and fixes๐Ÿ”—

We build TrendlyAI, so weigh that. TrendlyAI shows whether Perplexity, ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews name your brand or your competitors on your buyer prompts. It flags prompts where a competitor is named and you are not, then drafts fixes: comparison pages, FAQ pages with schema, Reddit answers, llms.txt files, best-of lists and product page rewrites. Later scans detect citations you have won. Perplexity is included on every plan: Solo $19/mo (1 brand, 25 prompts), Pro $49/mo (3 brands) and Agency $149/mo (10 client brands), with a 7-day free trial and no credit card.

Weak points: only 4 engines (no Gemini, Grok, Copilot or AI Mode), weekly scans with 1 sample per prompt, no prompt-volume data, a young product with few public reviews, and a small team. If you need daily Perplexity data, look at Otterly.AI or Semrush.

Otterly.AI: for daily Perplexity checks๐Ÿ”—

Otterly.AI includes Perplexity as one of four default engines on every plan, with daily tracking. Lite is $29/mo for 15 prompts, Standard is $189/mo for 100 and Premium is $489/mo for 400. Daily checks on Perplexity help you see how much its answers move, because you get many readings of the same prompt each month. Our Otterly alternative comparison covers the trade-offs.

Rank Prompt: for per-engine source data๐Ÿ”—

Rank Prompt tracks Perplexity alongside ChatGPT, Google AI Mode (grouped with AI Overviews), Claude, Gemini and Grok on all plans. Its pricing page says you can see "which sources each engine cited." Note that only ChatGPT, Claude and AI Mode run by default, so turn Perplexity on. One prompt on up to 3 engines costs 1 credit, and on 4 to 6 engines it costs 2. Starter is $49/mo for 150 credits.

LLMrefs: for big keyword sets๐Ÿ”—

LLMrefs includes Perplexity in its single $79/mo plan, which tracks 500 prompts "for brand mentions, sources and fan-out queries" and updates every keyword at least once a week. You enter SEO keywords and it generates the prompts, which is quick to set up but gives you less control over exact wording.

Ahrefs Brand Radar: for Ahrefs users๐Ÿ”—

Ahrefs lists Perplexity among the platforms in Brand Radar. Custom prompt tracking starts at $50/mo, and the AI Visibility Index, which adds research across Ahrefs' prompt database, starts at $199/mo, per its pricing page. Ahrefs Lite itself is $129/mo. This makes most sense if you already pay for Ahrefs.

Semrush: for Semrush users๐Ÿ”—

Semrush's pricing page lists "Google Search, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini & more" for AI visibility on its Starter ($199/mo, 50 prompts tracked daily) and Pro+ ($299/mo, 100 prompts) plans. Watch for the yearly prices that the page shows by default.

Peec AI and Profound: Perplexity costs extra๐Ÿ”—

Peec AI's standard plans ($95, $245 and $495 per month) let you choose from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI. Perplexity is a paid add-on model. Profound's only paid plan is a custom Enterprise plan, which lists Perplexity; its free trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. If Perplexity matters to you, ask either vendor for pricing before you commit. See Profound vs Peec vs Otterly for more.

How do you track Perplexity without a tool?๐Ÿ”—

You can track Perplexity by hand by running the same buyer prompts on a fixed day each week and logging the results in a spreadsheet. For each prompt, record:

  1. Whether your brand is named, and in what position.

  2. Which competitors are named.

  3. Which numbered citations appear next to the sentences that name brands.

  4. Which domains show up in the full sources list.

Use a logged-out session so your history does not shape the answer. Run each prompt twice to see how much it varies. This works for about 10 prompts. Past 25, it gets slow and hard to keep consistent. Our guide to tracking brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google walks through the manual method.

How do you improve your Perplexity results once you can measure them?๐Ÿ”—

You improve Perplexity results by working on the sources it already cites for your category. Look at the citations on prompts where a competitor wins. If they are listicles, ask to be included or publish your own honest comparison. If they are Reddit threads, take part helpfully. If your own page is in the sources list but not cited, make the key facts (price, who it is for, how it compares) easy to quote near the top. Then watch the same prompts over the next few weeks.

For tactics, read how to get cited by Perplexity and what makes content get cited by AI engines, and see the GEO hub for every guide. To see where you stand today, run the free AI visibility check. It needs no signup, takes about 30 seconds and runs 5 prompts on ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Frequently asked questions๐Ÿ”—

Can you see who Perplexity cites for a question?๐Ÿ”—

Yes. Perplexity shows numbered citations in its answers that link to the original sources, plus a list of the pages it used. That makes it one of the easier AI engines to audit by hand, and it is why Perplexity trackers can report citation data reliably.

Which AI visibility tools track Perplexity on a cheap plan?๐Ÿ”—

As of October 2026, TrendlyAI ($19/mo), Otterly.AI ($29/mo), Rank Prompt ($49/mo, plus a free plan with 10 credits) and LLMrefs ($79/mo) all include Perplexity on their entry plans. Peec AI sells Perplexity as a paid add-on model, and Profound lists it on Enterprise only.

Is a Perplexity citation the same as a recommendation?๐Ÿ”—

No. A citation means Perplexity used your page as a source. A recommendation means it named your brand as an option. Perplexity can cite your pricing page while recommending a competitor, so track both.

How often should I check Perplexity?๐Ÿ”—

Weekly is enough for most brands, because the useful signal is the trend across many prompts over several weeks. Daily checks help when you are testing a specific page and want to see how quickly Perplexity picks it up.

Does Peec AI track Perplexity?๐Ÿ”—

As of October 2026, Peec AI's pricing page lists Perplexity as a paid add-on model, not one of the standard picks on Starter, Pro or Advanced. Those plans let you pick 3 active models from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and Naver AI.
